Season 3 Episode 9

It’s a stacked (man-heavy) episode, folks: Alberta Ballet‘s Dynamic Directions showcased choreographies by Wen Wei Wang, Aszure Barton, and Yukichi Hattori; EdMetro Chorus teamed up with Tony Olivares Dance and the parkour antics of FlyFree Movement; and finally we caught Brian Webb trouncing around with CLINKER (a.k.a. Gary James Joynes) talkin’ ’bout death and stuff. Whew.

Season 3 Episode 6: Chinook Series

Back at Expanse—we mean Chinook—we rope in audience members Kristi Hansen, Jesse Gervais, and Tony Olivares to get their thoughts on two solo works: Brian
Webb‘s Score on Memory and Joshua Wolchanksy’s Pro Patria Ad Exitum.

Season 3 Episode 5: Chinook Series

Paul and Fawnda kick off coverage of the mammoth Chinook Series by moving the blanket fort to the Arts Barns. This Voltron of a festival—which combines Workshop West‘s Canoe, Azimuth Theatre‘s Expanse, and Fringe Theatre‘s Arts at the Barns series—runs until February 7, 2016.

Season 3 Episode 4

It’s a stacked episode, folks. Fawnda recounts her hike to the Banff Centre for Ballet BC‘s stunning 30th Anniversary showcase featuring works by Cayetano Soto, Stijn Celis, and Crystal Pite. Then, she and Paul unpack their thoughts on Convergence, the opening show of Good Women Dance Collective‘s season. Let’s just say there are no apologies made. By anyone. Ever.

Season 3 Episode 3

Coming to you straight from the moon! Paul and Fawnda dig into Cite Ballet‘s Enigma and the legendary Paul Taylor Dance Company‘s first-ever showing in Alberta, along with the help of some colourful balloons. Modern and dance helium: way to lighten the mood, right?

Season 3 Episode 2

There’s a bug in the tent! Join Paul and Fawnda as they launch into a review of BWDC’s presentation of Solitudes: SoloDaniel Léveillé‘s barely-clothed series of lone dancers in the “cross-fit of contemporary dance.”

Season 3 Episode 1

We’re back with a jam-packed episode to start Season 3. Paul and Fawnda regale with tales from Isabelle Van Grimde’s the Body in Question(s)2, co-presented by BWDC and the U of A Museums. We ponder the release of Canada Council’s recent Yes I Dance survey (and its accompanying Interactive Dance Wheel), and finally round up all the dance events (and dancey-sorta things) to look forward to in #yeg for start of the 2015-16 season.

Season 2 Episode 20

And now for something completely different: This week the IDGI team looks into the recent and sudden release of Citie Ballet‘s artistic directors, Francois and Laurence Chevennement. We talk to a number of people—including Citie’s Chair Trudy Callaghan, current Board member and former dancer Peter Akai, past board member Kathy Metzger-Corriveau, and former Citie Ballet dancer Danica Marlow—for perspectives on what this restructuring means for the company.

You can also find the official press release from Citie Ballet here.

Season 2 Episode 17: Expanse Festival Day 3

Day three at Expanse sees Anastasia Maywood, winner of the Good Women Dance New Work Award, visit the coat check. Then we catch up with Christine Frederick of Alberta Aboriginal Arts for a conversation about indigenous representation in arts, liberal sensitivities, and the complicated lines that art sometimes has to cross.
