Season 3 Episode 1

We’re back with a jam-packed episode to start Season 3. Paul and Fawnda regale with tales from Isabelle Van Grimde’s the Body in Question(s)2, co-presented by BWDC and the U of A Museums. We ponder the release of Canada Council’s recent Yes I Dance survey (and its accompanying Interactive Dance Wheel), and finally round up all the dance events (and dancey-sorta things) to look forward to in #yeg for start of the 2015-16 season.

Season 2 Episode 18: Expanse Festival Day 4

A busy Day Four at Expanse features the Alberta Grown showcase, and we catch up with Parts+Labour Danse, Freya Olafson, Krista Posyniak, and Tony Tran, who gives us a lesson in vouge. Then we cap off the night with Rebecca Sawdon and her Fabulous Beast.

Season 2 Episode 17: Expanse Festival Day 3

Day three at Expanse sees Anastasia Maywood, winner of the Good Women Dance New Work Award, visit the coat check. Then we catch up with Christine Frederick of Alberta Aboriginal Arts for a conversation about indigenous representation in arts, liberal sensitivities, and the complicated lines that art sometimes has to cross.

Season 2 Episode 16: Expanse Festival Day 2

Expanse Day 2: We track down Lara Kramer and the cast of Native Girl Syndrome to talk about realism in performance, and Kate Stashko visits the coat check hot off the heels of her premiere showing of The Matryoshka Series in the East Meets West program.

Season 2 Episode 15: Expanse Festival Day 1

The Expanse Festival is upon us! Join us for the next four days as we record from the coat check of the ATB Financial Arts Barns. Day One: We chat with Festival Director Murray Utas, Lobbyist cat-wrangler (ie: Stage Manager) Julie Ferguson, the cast of Nancy’ McAlear’s The Contract, and visiting members of Washington DC’s The Dance Exchange.

Season 2 Episode 14

Paul and a 10-year-old boy declare their favourite show of the year (so far) while Fawnda explains just who Marie Chouinard is. That’s right: IDGI covers the relentless, sexy, and overall fascinating return of the Montreal dance savant’s intrepid Compagnie to #yeg after nearly 20 years.

Season 2 Episode 13

Paul braves the blanket fort and Fawnda‘s head cold for a rousing conversation about BEARS, Pyretic Productions‘ latest theatrical work which featured so much dance, we couldn’t resist covering it. Also: The line-up for the Expanse Movement Arts Festival has been released, and we’re pretty darn excited about it.

Season 2 Episode 12

A two-hour contemporary dance show is rare, and Toy Guns Dance Theatre’s latest—Fortuitous Endings (what to do when you wake up drunk in a BBQ cover in your neighbours yard)—lived up to the length of its title. Our hosts take on the show, the pile of sand, and discuss whether or not “accessibility” is a dirty word.

Season 2 Episode 8

Paul and Fawnda take in a full weekend of dance: Good Women Dance Collective‘s Convergence with Rebecca Sawdon‘s  table-monster-beast, followed by Brian Webb Dance Company‘s Prairie Dance Circuit, featuring orgasms, live birth, vomiting and ejacu… other everyday bodily functions. Enjoy!

Season 2 Episode 7

Paul and Fawnda take in Alberta Ballet‘s The Three Musketeers, David Nixon’s new, slightly odd, and swashbuckling take on the classic, plus a rundown of all the dance happenings coming up in Edmonton (PS: There’s a LOT of dance coming up. And we’re not even talking about The Nutcracker yet.)
